Tomislav Smoljanović, MD, PhD - EDITOR IN CHIEF
Dr Tomislav Smoljanović is an Assistant Professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, Croatia. He received his MD degree in 2002 and PhD degree in 2008, both from the University of Zagreb. He is currently the Head of the Polyclinics at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University Hospital Center Zagreb. His research interests include all aspects of injuries and diseases of locomotor system. He gained international recognition due to research that uncovered the harmful side effects of bone morphogenetic protein 2 therapy. Apart from teaching and practicing orthopaedic surgery, Dr Smoljanović is involved in working with physically disabled athletes as a member of the Sports Medicine Commission of the Croatian Paralympic Committee and is an International Classifier in the sport of Para-Rowing. Dr Smoljanović won a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and a silver medal at the 2001 World Rowing Championships in Luzern, Switzerland as a member of the Croatian National Rowing men’s eight team. He is also a member of the Sports Medicine Commission of the World Rowing Federation (FISA).
